This game looks good to me for it's age (1996), It didn't go for the blocky 3D animated style fighting games which were appearing at the time and age quickly and instead it uses nicely animated 2D characters on interactive backgrounds. I have continued playing for a while now and have gotten to grips with the game alot more than when I first experienced it. Who i should mention frustrated me at first as he can heal himself when attacking you. I worked my way through the list of enemies on the roster and eventually beat the big bad Gargos. Feeling good I then started to be more aggressive with the next AI, constantly gettting in close with the enemy to prevent long range attacks and attacking low and then high to avoid easy blocks. I beat the my first AI component after wildey jumping everywhere and throwing quick punches and kicks.

Straight away I noticed a difference due to her speed. So I decided to change character from the big bulky barbarian and go for a female character as personally in fighting games I find them easier to control. Tusk was Constantly making groaning noises as he was being thrown around like a rag doll and unable to use his big sword to hit anything. The First few matches I played as TUSK I was destroyed by the AI. I started playing and also remembered how bad I was at this game. So I loaded it up and straight away I remembered some of the Characters such as TUSK the barbarian and Glacier the ICE Warrior.

I Downloaded this game onto my XBOX as I think I must have got it free with Games for Gold a while ago with the Main Killer Instinct season 2 download. I owned this game on the N64 when it was originally released and haven't played a Killer Instinct game since.

Overall if you could pick this game up for $5 or less by itself, I'd say go for it, but it's not worth paying the $20 premium for the KI Season 2 upgrade for it unless you REALLY want those cosmetic items in KI Season 2 as well. But it held its own pretty darn well back in its heyday, and it's still a decent nostalgia trip for those of us that remember it. This game does not hold up to modern fighters, even the smaller digital ones that were never released at retail. However, being a true port of a nearly 20-year old fighting game, don't expect miracles. The controls are tight and responsive, the old cheat codes for Gargos in story mode and stage select in 2-player versus are still present, and the developers have even gone so far as to add an online versus mode so that die-hard fans can still claim competitive notches on their virtual belt. That being said, KI 2 Classic for Xbox One is as good and true-to-the-original an arcade port as one could ask for. It essentially feels like you're paying $20 for KI 2 Classic, although in reality most of that price tag is attributable to the cosmetic items for KI Season 2.

The only way to get it on the Xbox One is to purchase the combo pack for Killer Instinct Season 2, which is unfortunate because if you're not interested in cosmetic items you can get all 8 Season 2 Characters for $20, and this combo pack costs $40. Killer Instinct 2 was a stand-up arcade fighter released in 1996 and subsequently released on its console debut on the Nintendo 64.
